Restoration and Repair of Hermann-Grima House

Built in 1831, Hermann-Grima House is one of the most significant residences in New Orleans. This handsome Federal-style mansion with its courtyard garden boasts the only stable and functional 1830s outdoor kitchen that remain in the French Quarter. Through painstaking research, archaeological studies and careful review of the building contract and inventories, the house complex accurately depicts the gracious lifestyle of a prosperous Creole family.

The Hermann-Grima Complex consists of three separate buildings; the Main House, the Carriage House, and the Dependency/Slave Quarters. Each building provides an opportunity for interpretation and preservation.

Today the effects of time has taken its toll on the buildings of the Hermann-Grima House. The brick and the mortar have been severely eroded throughout several of the site’s structures and in some areas have compromised the structural integrity of the buildings.
