Frances Chapin Ladner grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She studied painting under Jean Carter Van Arsdale of Gulfport, MS., Jere Allen in Oxford, MS., Dr. Eugenia Summers of Columbus, MS. and Rus Hempstead of Mobile, AL. She earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS.
Her favorite medium is watercolor. “I am inspired by light, reflections and shadows. I love painting places where I have been or would enjoy spending time. I have also begun a series of paintings in a neutral sepia palette. But my very favorite thing to paint is portraits of people… all different kinds of people.”
Frances has been painting with watercolor since she was ten years old. “When I began, it was just second nature to me. My late grandmother, Mary Jo Hendrick, also painted, and I am blessed that her talent was passed on to me.”
Frances and her husband have five children and live in Gulfport, Mississippi.
