Creole Cooking Classes

NEW• Creole Cooking Classes

Experience authentic 19th-century Creole cooking in a fully restored outdoor open-hearth kitchen!

Join Culinary Historian, Elizabeth Pearce, in preparing a seasonal, multi-course Creole breakfast and lunch that feature locally-sourced ingredients in iconic New Orleans dishes. Participants will employ hearth-cooking techniques using recipes that can be easily adapted for home use. This hands-on cooking experience will culminate in a formal, wine-paired Creole luncheon served in the Hermann-Grima House’s lush, historic 1830s courtyard.

Visitors will be given a guided tour of the Hermann-Grima House created especially for Creole Cooking Class participants, focusing on dining and entertaining in 19th-century New Orleans. In addition to savoring the kitchen’s bounty and the house and courtyard’s beauty, guests will leave with a richer understanding and appreciation of New Orleans’ rich Creole culinary history and the influence of past traditions on today’s dishes and dining.

Class size is limited to eight participants. Menus change seasonally. Please call Elizabeth Pearce at (504) 274-0741 or email her at elizabethp@hgghh.org for menus and availability.

Cooking classes are $150, or $130 for members of HGGHH. For an additional $45, one additional guest can sign up for a mini-class and lunch. This fee includes a tour  and luncheon.
