DEMONSTRATIONS

Cooking Days Hermann-Grima House

Every Thursday from October through May, trained volunteer cooks demonstrate food preparation and cooking methods in the 1830s kitchen.  The cooks use traditional recipes and techniques to prepare menus with appropriate seasonal ingredients.  Visitors also learn about the development of the city's distinctive cuisine – a blend of French, Spanish, African, and Native American cultural influences.

The cooking program is included with the regularly scheduled guided tours at no additional cost.  For more information, please Contact Us at (504) 525-5661.

Living History Days Gallier House

Every Wednesday from October through May, trained volunteers demonstrate housekeeping techniques from the 19th century.  Visitors will be able to see history come alive at the 1860 French Quarter townhouse.  Fabric dyeing, woodworking, butter churning, and tignon tying are just a few examples of the living history demonstrations to be performed.

The living history program is included with the regularly scheduled guided tours at no additional cost.  Every week visitors will have the opportunity to observe a different living history demonstration.  Go to  the Calendar to see the schedule of Living History demonstrations.  For more information, please Contact Us at (504) 525-5661.
