In the tragic aftermath of the Civil War, a local group of determined women established The Christian Woman’s Exchange, which provided a place for war widows to sell their handmade goods anonymously. Today, we offer the consigned original art of local female artists in the Exchange Shop. As part of the Cultural Economic District, purchasers avoid sales tax to support our artists!
Located in the former carriage house of the Hermann-Grima House, The Exchange Shop features books and the work of female artists from Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. Artists showcase their work in a variety of media including photography, mixed media, jewelry, textiles, pottery, ceramics and paintings.
